Scan a QR Code from an Image, Screenshot, or Camera

Read a QR code without installing an app — even when the code is already on your screen. UtilHub's free QR code scanner decodes codes from photos, screenshots, and PDF pages, or live through your phone or laptop camera, and it finds every code in an image, not just the first. Before you open anything, it shows what the code really contains: the full web address, the Wi-Fi network name and password, a contact card, an email, or a phone number, with one-tap copy. Decoding happens on your device, so the image is never uploaded. It is the easy answer to a common problem: scanning a code someone sent you, on the same phone you would normally scan it with.

How to use QR Code Scanner

  1. Choose how to scan: upload an image, paste a screenshot, pick a PDF, or start the camera.
  2. The scanner finds and decodes every QR code in the picture.
  3. Check the decoded content — links show their full domain before you open them.
  4. Copy the text, open the link, copy the Wi-Fi password, or save the contact.

Features

  • Image, screenshot, PDF, or camera — Scan codes you received in a chat or email, paste screenshots with Ctrl+V, read codes inside PDF pages, or point any camera at a code.
  • Every code in one pass — Images with several QR codes, like tickets or product sheets, are fully decoded instead of stopping at the first match.
  • Safe link preview — See the real destination before opening it, with a warning for shortened links and look-alike domains.
  • Private and app-free — Decoding runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and you can install the scanner as a lightweight app.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I scan a QR code from a picture on the same phone?

Open this page on your phone, tap the upload area, and choose the screenshot or photo from your gallery. The code is decoded instantly and its content is shown on screen, so you never need a second device. Install the scanner from this page to open it from your home screen next time.

Can I scan a QR code on a laptop or PC without an app?

Yes. Open the scanner in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, or ChromeOS, then upload the image, paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac), or allow webcam access and hold the code up to the camera. Nothing has to be installed, and the image is not sent anywhere.

Is it safe to open a link from a QR code?

Not always. Scammers place fake QR codes on parking meters, emails, and flyers that lead to look-alike login pages — a trick known as quishing. Before opening a link, check the full domain the scanner shows, be careful with shortened links, and never enter passwords or payment details on a page you reached from an unexpected code.

Why won't my QR code scan?

The usual causes are a blurry or low-resolution image, a code cut off at the edges, glare or low contrast, and too little blank margin around the code. Try a sharper screenshot, crop close to the code while keeping a white border, or raise the screen brightness when using the camera. Heavily stylized or damaged codes may not be readable.

Is my image uploaded when I scan it?

No. The QR code is decoded by JavaScript running on your device, so the photo or screenshot never leaves your browser and nothing is stored. That matters when a code holds a Wi-Fi password, a payment link, or a boarding pass. You can confirm it by going offline after the page loads — scanning still works.
